Flooring Under Fireplace Gas Valve Trim Ring - Flooring - DIY ...

Next to our fireplace on the floor is a round chrome trim piece that goes over the turn-key for the gas valve.

I thought that I could simply pull the trim collar out of the floor, cut the hardwood planks around the hole and then replace the trim collar, but the trim collar doesn't want to seem to be lifted out.

Are there any tricks to removing these things?
