OLYMPIA, Wash. - The son of Washington?s Lt. Governor has been charged with theft and forgery.
According to state investigators, Mark Owen, son of Lt. Governor Brad Owen, illegally collected nearly $20,000 in disability payments.
Mark Owen was wounded in a workplace shooting in Kent in November 2009.
He told the state department of Labor and Industries he was too injured to return to work. But co-workers told investigators he returned two weeks after the shooting.
Investigators say they got surveillance photos of Mark Owen at work, and claim a mistake by Owen helped them prove their case.
After leaving a voicemail message with a L&I official February 2010,? Mark Owen apparently did not hang up and could be heard explaining to someone else how he was getting money he was not entitle to.
Owen is also accused of helping a co-worker make fraudulent disability claims.
Mark Owen has past forgery convictions.
Lt. Governor Brad Owen had no comment on the case.
