Community Colleges and Their Educational Aspects

In the United States of America, community colleges are educational institutions that offer courses that are basically two year courses. There are some with longer programs but these are unusual for many of these institutions. The programs that they offer are aimed at higher education, meaning courses that come after high school. These may be technical programs or supplemental ones that help students reach their goals. There are some schools that also offer comprehensive types of courses that many of the people in the neighborhood and surrounding area may find useful.

Aspects of Education

There are several aspects of education that some of the comprehensive community colleges offer. These aspects include but are not limited to transfer, career, developmental, continuing, industry training and e-learning. In transfer, the individual has a choice of moving on to a four year course after finishing the basic two year one that the school has offered. He or she can then obtain a BS or a BA when the four year course is finished. In those who enroll in career education, they can enter the workforce immediately after graduating from the initial two year course that they enrolled in with the school. The students who graduate via these programs usually come out with an associate degree, which is quite useful for getting a job in offices and other institutions.

Developmental programs are courses that are usually focused on high school students who want to continue to college but are not yet fully ready to tackle some of the courses offered there. These programs are like remedial courses that can help individuals learn more and be more prepared for higher education. Community colleges also offer continuing education programs that are aimed at personal development and developing the interest of an individual in specific things and abstracts. Industry training programs are also very in demand in these schools. One reason behind this is the fact that many, if not all of the courses like these are sponsored by companies that wish to train individuals for specific jobs and then hire them after they graduate. Local companies and institutions usually sponsor the course in the school and provide the necessary training and education for the students. When they graduate, most, if not all of the students are hired and placed in the company that sponsored the training.

As for e-learning, there are certain courses that can be learned and finished via the computer and the internet. These kinds of programs are fast becoming very popular because they are very convenient ways of earning a degree in one?s own time and convenience. Exams for these are usually proctored and can be done with via the internet.

Many of the community colleges that offer these aspects of education have agreements with local companies and other sponsors to place their graduates in their workforce. These are considerable incentives for individuals who have no wish to go to four year college courses and wish to enter the workforce as soon as they can.
